iNote Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 September 2026
iNote is a handwriting notebook app for iOS and Android published by Vidanimate. This policy explains what information the app handles and where it goes. The short version: your notes stay on your device, we run no servers that receive them, and we do not sell or share personal data.
1. No account, no cloud
iNote does not require an account, sign-in, or email address. We do not operate a backend that stores your notebooks. Everything you create is saved in the app's private storage on your device.
2. Data the app stores on your device
- Notebooks: handwriting, typed text, photos you insert, imported PDF, Word and PowerPoint documents, spreadsheets, charts, stickers and page settings.
- Tasks and reminders: titles, times and completion state from your planner pages.
- Audio recordings: voice memos you record inside a note (see section 3).
- Search index: text recognised from your handwriting so notes can be searched. Recognition runs entirely on the device.
- Preferences: language, pen settings, timer settings and the Pro status of your purchase.
This data never leaves the device unless you export or share it yourself, or you use collaboration (section 5). Deleting a notebook removes its content, recordings, thumbnails and search entries. Uninstalling the app removes all of it. Where the operating system offers device backup (iCloud Backup, Google backup), your notebooks may be included in that backup under the platform's own privacy terms.
3. Microphone
iNote asks for microphone access only when you tap Record inside a note. The recording is saved as an audio file in the app's private storage, attached to that note, and used to play back your handwriting in sync with the audio. Recordings are never uploaded or transmitted. Recording stops or pauses when you leave the app. You can delete any recording from the Recordings list, and revoking microphone permission in system settings disables the feature.
4. Notifications and alarms
If you schedule a task, reminder or focus timer, the app asks for permission to show notifications and, on Android, to schedule exact alarms so reminders fire on time. Notifications are generated locally on the device; no push service or server is involved. Reminder content is stored on your device only.
5. Collaboration over Wi-Fi
You can invite people on the same local network to draw in a notebook with you. When you host or join a session:
- Your device advertises the session on the local network under a display name you choose plus a random suffix, and connects directly to the other devices. iOS uses Apple's Multipeer Connectivity; Android uses network service discovery over Wi-Fi.
- Note content (strokes, text, images, tasks and recordings in that notebook) and the position of your pen are sent directly to the other participants' devices so they can see and edit the same page.
- Nothing passes through our servers, because we have none. On Android, this local traffic is not encrypted, so use collaboration only on networks you trust.
- Content received from other participants is stored in your copy of the notebook. Content you send is stored on theirs. Ending the session stops all transmission.
6. Font import over Wi-Fi
To install custom fonts, the app can start a small web server on your device, reachable only from your local network at the address shown on screen. It accepts font files you upload from another device on that network, stores them in the app's private storage, and stops when you close the screen. It serves no personal data.
7. Purchases
iNote Pro is sold through the App Store and Google Play. Payment is processed by Apple or Google; we never see your card details. The app stores only whether a purchase is active in order to unlock Pro features. Subscriptions renew and can be cancelled under the rules of the respective store.
8. Handwriting recognition, documents and links
Handwriting search and handwriting-to-text conversion use Apple Vision on iOS and Google ML Kit on Android. Both run on the device; no images of your notes are sent for processing. Word, PowerPoint and PDF files are parsed and rendered on the device. If you tap a link inside an imported PDF, the app opens it in your browser and the browser's own privacy terms apply.
9. What we do not do
- No analytics, tracking or advertising SDKs.
- No collection of device identifiers, location, contacts or usage statistics.
- No sale or sharing of personal data with third parties.
- No transmission of your notebooks, recordings or handwriting to us or anyone else.
10. Permissions summary
| Permission | Why | When asked |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone | Record voice memos in a note | When you tap Record |
| Notifications | Reminders, task alerts and focus timer | When you schedule one |
| Exact alarms (Android) | Fire reminders on time | Offered once after notifications are allowed |
| Local network / Wi-Fi state | Collaboration and font import | When you host, join, or open font import |
| Biometrics | Unlock notebooks you have locked | When you open a locked notebook |
| Photos | Insert a picture | Through the system picker only; no library access |
11. Children
iNote is a general-audience productivity app and is not directed at children under 13. We knowingly collect no personal information from anyone, including children.
12. Your choices
You control all data through the app: delete notebooks, recordings and tasks at any time, revoke any permission in system settings, or uninstall to remove everything. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to export or erase on request, but you may still contact us with any privacy question.
13. Changes
If the app's data handling changes, this page and the "last updated" date will be revised, and material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
